Building a new brand for the Strands portfolio from scratch
The Body Lab was born in 2023 from a simple conversation between the leadership team and Eric Delapenha, the CEO of Strands Hair Care. Do you think we can create a body care line that leverages the innovation of The Hair Lab but creates customization around fragrance instead of formula? We said “absolutely!” and one year later The Body Lab was launched.
Our goal was to create an approachable brand with sense-stimulating fragrances and skin-loving ingredients as the innovation behind the AI-driven diagnostic that provides you with a completely customized skin care solution. We began with product development and formulation that accounts for up to 60 unique fragrance combinations and 5 skincare needs. As the regimen took shape I began to work with our development agency on a completely custom AI diagnostic and ecomm platform. I then spearheaded package design that took the stock character of The Hair Lab and evolved to a custom shape that elevated the brand, mindful of visual continuity for the existing design of The Hair Lab. The result was a highly successful partnership and launch in Walmart putting us next to brands like Native and Method on shelf.
